Schools Encouraged To Keep Children Safe With High Visibility Clothing

Clothing suppliers Xamax are encouraging parents and teachers to keep up the good work of the recent 'walk to school' campaign, by offering subsidised high visibility clothing for children.

WAKEFIELD, ENGLAND, November 14, 2009 /Parenting PR News/ -- Clothing suppliers Xamax are encouraging parents and teachers to keep up the good work of the recent 'walk to school' campaign, by offering subsidised high visibility clothing for children. This is to ensure that they will remain safe whilst walking to and from school this winter.

The Walk to School event took place in October, with a series of initiatives designed to encourage children and parents to walk to school, instead of taking the car. This was a huge success, with thousands taking part across the U.K.

With the nights drawing in, however, most children will soon be travelling to and from school in darkness, which means they are at risk from motorists, due to poor visibility. Last year, 2,133 children were seriously injured on Britain's roads, with 70 fatalities. This may discourage many parents from walking their children to school.

Xamax are pointing out that this risk can be significantly reduced if children are given high visibility clothing to wear, something which the Wakefield-based suppliers are hoping to encourage by entering into sponsorship deals with local schools.

A spokesperson explains:

"Walk to school month may be over but that does not mean that parents should revert to taking their children to school in the car. The campaign has had a tremendous response and we are keen to keep up this momentum by encouraging schools to equip their pupils with subsidised high visibility vests, which will ensure that they are safe and visible when walking to and from school."

"Xamax are entering into several sponsorship deals with schools from across West Yorkshire, which will see us supply subsidised high visibility waistcoats for just over a pound per pupil. These waistcoats can be printed with the school's logo and are easily incorporated into their existing uniform."

Local schools in the West Yorkshire area are invited to contact Xamax, and if the scheme proves to be a success then they will consider rolling it out nationally. To find out more, visit: http://www.xamax.co.uk.
