Australian Toddler's Second Degree Burns A Stark Reminder of the Importance of Year Round Sun Protection

Sun Protection Zone Reaches Out to Daycare Providers to Offer Free Sun Screen Monitoring Bands

LOS ANGELES, CA, December 02, 2009 /Parenting PR News/ -- Sun Protection Zone, a leader in the development of apparel and sun safety products, announces a program to offer free solar safe monitoring bands to daycare providers who wish to promote sun safety at their daycare centers. Last week it was reported that sixteen-month-old Ozzy Buisson of Queensland, Australia sustained second degree burns after playing outside all day. In a statement made by the daycare center looking after Ozzy that day they admitted to having applied sunscreen to the toddler only twice. The child was rushed to the hospital by his mom after the toddler developed large blisters throughout his arms.

"Parents have a need to understand that sun protection is a year round activity, not limited to bright, sunny days," states Chip Carter of Sun Protection Zone. Throughout the year the sun's UV rays can cause irreversible damage to one's skin that makes one prone to serious skin problems such as Melanoma.

Sun Protection Zone offer their patented Solar Safe Wristbands that are worn when initially applying sunscreen and turn a different color to remind you when it is time to reapply. Also wearing UV protective clothing like Sun Protection Zone's SunSkinzTM could have easily prevented Ozzy's severe burns. Despite the fact that there is a great deal of information available regarding sun safety, particularly in Australia and the United States, it is clear that a great deal of effort still needs to be made to educate parents and the general public about the matter.
